Diamanda Galas/Nosferatu
2009 November 19
I have had this in my head for weeks and finally made it yesterday. I used pieces of Murnau’s 1922 film Nosferatu and made this little tribute to one of my favorite songs off of Diamanda Galas’ La Serpenta Canta. When I can’t seem to get any real work done and I need to unwind, making these video montages becomes my art therapy.

This is too fucking cool!!

Art therapy is work! It’s a joy. I saw the silent film in 16mm at college and on the big screen at the Bama Theater and have it on DVD, tinted, but with a reasonalby “good score” but this is off the fucking planet somewhere north of Saturn or maybe west of tomorrow.
Nice choice of a landmarked film that had Bram Stoker’s widow succeeded would never have been seen and one day re-orchestrated by the incomparable KA and DG. Thankfully, Murnau ignored her and saved a version. Whew.
My personal favorite scene in the original film was Max Schrek coming out of the ship’s cargo hold having killed its crew. Shiver me timbers, indeed. Those glowing eyes, years ahead of those cute telekinetic little blond bastards in “Village of the Damned.”
Wolf Rilla’s film, another favorite, would make a great Diamanta redux, especially considering the original film was banned by the – aha- Catholic League of Decency for its immaculate conception themes.
It was science fiction, you witless incense burners…..
Sorry!
